Who Wants A Pony??!

I am stumped.  Any guesses why??  A few hints … It’s not because I can’t figure out what to get my father-in-law for his birthday.  Not because I don’t know what to make for dinner or where I’ve managed to lose yet another set of car keys.  And I’ve given up on learning HTML so it’s not that either.  And no case of writer’s block (the new book is moving along quite well).  It’s also not because I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place … (I had to throw that one in) … Let me expand …
This Saturday I am playing Jeff Probst and hosting a SURVIVOR party for roughly eighteen, eleven year olds.  Yes, you read that right … eighteen.  One-eight.  Bear in mind the forecast is for rain and a high of about twenty-seven degrees.  Yippee! No worries though, I’ve given my brain a workout and have all the challenges set … I’ve mapped out a relay race; put together a few brain teasers; bought puzzles; bought rope for a tug-a-war; created some food tasting contests; and even hidden an immunity idol in my neighborhood.  (Really, it’s going to be so good that I think I could market this idea.)
So what’s left to do?  What could possibly have me so bamboozled that I am losing sleep? The damn party favors of course.
When I was a kid, birthday party favors consisted of whatever candy you could grab from the busted piñata and maybe, if you were lucky, a balloon.  But now … oh, no … now thanks to some mother somewhere the rest of us have these party-favor-standards to live up to.  And while yes, money is certainly a factor — I don’t want the party favors to cost a couple hundred bucks … but, even if I could or wanted to spend that much, still I would be stumped as to what the item(s) should be.
So please, could you give some ideas here??? Some reasonable ideas! Please?  Forward this to all your Pinterest friends … Tweet … post this on Facebook … someone out there has to have an idea … and remember, my clock is ticking!
Oh, and what if the weather is worse than predicted you ask?  Exile Island of course … aka the basement for popcorn and movies.

  1. Uhm… Difficult question. Maybe you could hide candy, biscuits etc and the children have to go look for their own 'food'. Some might find something fancy, but you may also hide boring food (plain bread, a box of ravioli) for the unlucky ones :) Anyway, let me know what you finally came up with.

Oh my goodness, you are a rock star! EIGHTEEN 11 year olds!!!?!?!?!??? Are you nuts? HA HA HA HA! You are going to need a really, really big Diet Coke once that party is over! HA HA! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for commenting. You are such a knock out (seriously, look at your picture), and I appreciate your support! As for party favors….YIKES! I STINK at this kind of stuff. I'd hit up a party store in the area. Go visit the luau themed stuff. Maybe find some empty coconut shells to fill with a treat, or something. Doesn't Jeff snuff out the torches with a a coconut shell attached to a pole. HEY! Give all the kids tiki torches! HA HA! I'm sure that would be a hit with the parents! Good luck!

How about a survival kit for kids? Get brown paper lunch bags and fill them with a handful of cheap items that are musts for your child. Say your child loves Milkyway candy bars, put one in the bag. Say your child loves chapstick, put one in the bag. Just keep it simple and fun. On the bag you can attach a cute tag that says “Survival Kit”. Check out the Target $1 section or the $1 store for some cheap options.

Thanks for the follow, I'm following back. Do you have a party store in your area? Candy that most kids like ( don't know what the favorites are right now)and dumb little party toys should be enough. Really, what can people expect when you're throwing such a big theme party? Don't stress over it, it's the other people's problem if they expect more.

  6. Thanks for stopping by Blueberry Squash! How about Smores Favors? I found this link that is cute : http://blog.tinyprints.com/diy/diy-smores-party-favors/ With the chilly weather it might be a fun project :)

Thanks for the follow.. I am following back via google + this is a hard one… Since i don't have kids, I doubt I can be much help, but what about if you did some sort of survivor background on photoshop and then added pictures taken from the party and put in a cute little frame? that would make a cute keepsake…

I would hit the local Dollar Store. They probably have some packages you could make the party favors with.

I say candy candy candy lots of candy cuz everybody loves candy

  10. This is a tough one. I hate making up loot bags for my kids parties. How about checking the dollar store for cure jungle animal figurines? Maybe youcan also get those mosquitoe torches (if it's not to early for them) to act as the torches at elimination. Hope this helps. BTW, I have added you to my circle.

Hmmm. I'm at a loss for the party favors. I try to avoid entertaining other people's kids if at all possible.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I added you on Google+. Have a great day and good luck with the party. My oldest is 11 and the mere thought of enertaining 18 of his friends makes me want to curl up in the corner and cry.

The first think I thought of was the bandanas they all wear durring the show, if you have a dollar store you can pick up 2 colors and some perminant markers and let the girls pick their tribe names to put on them. Instead of giving everyone a GREAT party favor you could have a couple they could win by finding an “immunity” idol hidden somewhere. Hope this helps a little! :) Thanks for stopping by today, I am following via G+ now as well as the GFC. Have a great Fat Tuesday.

Have you visited TipNut? Or Living Locurto? I get tons of ideas from them. Just google them if you havent heard of them. Since its Survivor….should you perhaps serve rice in lieu of pizza? LOL
