Becoming batman for a day …
“It’s not what I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.” ~ Batman
If you could be someone else for one day, who would you be? Really—I’m curious. Now if you have one of those brains that gives pause before answering a question you might want to know more about the final consequences associated with becoming this person—like say you choose to be Warren Buffet, do you get to keep all the interest money earned on that particular day? Similarly, should you choose to be the president of the United States, or a congressman for that matter, would the laws you uphold, the pardons you offer, the bills you veto … would those decisions be absolute or would they disappear when your 24-hours ends? And for that matter, would you get to remember those 24-hours?
Now of course if you have one of those brains that is too quick to judge or offer forth opinions before considering the big picture, you probably already answered the question and have moved on to read another post somewhere else in the blogosphere but if you’re still with me, rather than becoming someone else for one day, what if you could inherit one physical attribute … be it someone’s smooth skin, long eye lashes, shiny hair … OR, even better, what if BAM, you could take on a power of your favorite superhero (yes, that was a classic run-on sentence). What would you choose?
Me, I don’t know. It would be fun to see through walls I guess. I mean it would be a cool party trick. But like anything it would get old. And it might be fun to fly. But then again, I really don’t like to fly and don’t have a great desire to get anywhere any faster than I already can. It most definitely would be super awesome to cast spells—but that’s more of a witch thing, than a superpower. I know I wouldn’t want to read minds … I mean why on Earth would I want to know what runs through a serial killer’s mind; what causes a mother to hurt their child; a father to endorse honor killings; a sick person to maim and murder. No. I most definitely do not want to understand mankind that much. Heck, I have a tough enough time trying to figure out what makes me tick on the good days, let alone what makes someone else tick on the worst of days.
“The most courageous thing a person can do is learn to understand that which they fight against.”
Come to think of it, I do sort of like the idea of being a secret vigilante, that for one day, could be absolved from ridding our world of as much malevolence as possible. Yea. That would be cool. Especially if I got to wear a shiny costume. Batman, if you’re reading this and need a new sidekick, count me in … I’ll take a size medium for my cape. Oh, and I look really good in green. If it could be green, to match my eyes, that would be best.

DISCLAIMER: I’m a writer and an editor. And I try my best to make sure every post is articulate and free from errors. However, being that I edit my own work—and it’s next to impossible to properly edit your own work—I admit, occasionally there may be an error or two I miss. But doing so doesn’t make me an idiot so don’t be mean. Just smile, pat yourself on the back for finding an error and be glad you’re not the only one who makes mistakes sometimes … xoxox
