Heed What Mufasa Said

Mufasa: Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. As king, you need to understand that balance and respect all the creatures, from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope.

Simba: But, Dad, don’t we eat the antelope?

Mufasa: Yes, Simba, but let me explain. When we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. And so we are all connected in the great Circle of Life.

And maybe, just maybe, if we all tried a little bit more to understand how our behaviors affect one another—be those behaviors palpable or conceptual—maybe the connections we make throughout our lives would be more thoughtful, more meaningful, more real. Maybe. Just a little something to think about.

Oh, and for the record, I don’t believe humans can come back from the dead … unless, that is, they’re Batman. But I do believe we have the power to reinvent ourselves—and like Mufasa, I’m down with the whole Circle of Life concept … although I don’t care for the taste of antelope : )
