If a picture is worth a thousand words it must be one hell of a picture, eh?
From the rain-drenched balcony of a hotel room daughter one asks: “Did you check the forecast before you booked the trip?”
Daughter two chimes in: “Is it possible to get a flight home?”
My family and I were just a wee bit east of where Hurricane Patricia made landfall 12 days ago. And when you are in a torrential downpour with two teenage girls, it can be quite a … well … crappy time.
Mother (that would be me) says to herself: “Do you think I book vacations based on a 10-day forecast? Do you not think, that perhaps, I made these plans a long frickin’ time ago? Do you think, that perhaps, you might cut me a little slack as Mother Nature doesn’t exactly confer with me before she makes her plans to wreak havoc on this one-time lovely, hot, sunny beach? And for that matter, do you think that perhaps you could stop scowling at me for spending a few thousand dollars to take you on a vacation, in Mexico, where I might add, it NEVER rains like this?”
Fortunately, we were safe—but after those rainy afternoons (mornings, nights, dawn, dusks) I will never assume that just because a place is supposed to be one way, that it will be that way when I am there. (Honestly people, I think Mother Nature has it out for me … that or she’s never had teenage daughters.)
Cover image from Pexels’ free image library because mine, which I swear looked JUST like this, got lost in the blogging universe during migration.
DISCLAIMER: I’m a writer and an editor. And I try my best to make sure every post is articulate and free from errors. However, being that I edit my own work—and it’s next to impossible to properly edit your own work—I admit, occasionally there may be an error or two I miss. But doing so doesn’t make me an idiot so don’t be mean. Just smile, pat yourself on the back for finding an error and be glad you’re not the only one who makes mistakes sometimes … xoxox
