What do Mommy Bloggers and Lasagna Have in Common?

You’ve seen one lasagna, you’ve seen them all …

I have to be careful here—see this might be (another) one of those posts that earn me a hater or two … but then again, the risk of offending someone to the point that they don’t want to read my blog isn’t really anything I’m overly concerned about. And come to think of it, I know a lot more people who think along the same lines as I do when it comes to this so really, I’m more likely to gain a few readers than lose. So here goes nothing … (and hey, if you’re still reading, before you guffaw too loudly, read the whole damn post).

I do not spend hours upon hours reading other blogs—especially mommy blogs. Quite frankly, I don’t have the time. And I like my wine at night so I’m usually sound asleep by 10 p.m. aka. the hour in which many of the mommy bloggers come out to play. I have my favorite blogs, some of which the author’s may or may not stop by today and bless me with a shiny I-like-your-post star, but some days I don’t even have the time to visit their little slice of the World Wide Web.  But when I do, I in turn offer a shiny I-like-your-post star back. But I don’t like their post just for the hell of it. I like it because I actually liked it.

And part of the reason I liked it is because it’s not a bunch of mumble jumble. Not another “Here’s what I did today,” post nor another “Here’s how to organize your closet,” “Meal planning for the family,” “This is the best diet food ever,” “I had a great workout” … the list goes on and on and on and somewhere in the middle of it there’s probably a new way to boil noodles and assemble a lasagna. I mean I hate to break it to the lasagna lovers of the world, but it’s really nothing more than layering the same—give or take—ingredients into a pan and baking at 350 degrees for 60 minutes.

So, when I was asked, “When was the last time you felt truly rejuvenated and energized? What made you feel that way?” I couldn’t help but wonder, who in their right mind out there would give one iota about what makes me feel energized? And then it dawned on me … the mommy bloggers, that’s who. Because they seem to have some kind of hidden society that brings them together not only to commiserate but also to celebrate the little things that matter most. And that’s great. And since they’re not hurting anyone, I say let them have their fun … I just wish they (as a collective) would learn how to write a bit better. The subjectivism and overuse of prepositions is killing me Smalls.

Oh, and I was going to include a bunch of hyperlinks to some hilarious posts on mommy blogging, but as I found myself Googling, I also found myself doing the one thing I said I don’t have time for—reading a bunch of blogs, so you’ll have to do your own Googling. I’m out!
