I once tried to become a coupon queen. And by “once,” I literally mean once. Like for one day. One miserable day. Alas, I had a binder, but only because my neighbor insisted. I made labels, again only because my neighbor insisted. I cut and I cut and I cut. I even forced my ten‑year‑old to come with me to the “inexpensive” grocery store, armed with an envelope of coupons and a sense of misplaced optimism.
It went downhill fast.
We couldn’t find the salsa brand. The yogurt coupon required an eight‑pack that didn’t exist. Every discount demanded buying three of something I only needed one of. Two hours and two hundred thirty‑seven dollars later, I vowed never to coupon again. I handed the entire Sunday stack to my neighbors and returned to shopping at the store closest to my house like a woman who values her time, her sanity, and her dairy products.
So no — couponing is not my favorite side hustle. My favorite side hustle is knowing myself well enough to quit the ones that make me miserable.
Are you a coupon queen… or do you, like me, bow down to the nearest Piggly Wiggly and call it a day?
