To Love a Pirate and Sail with Vikings

Oh, to love a pirate and sail with Vikings …

I don’t have a favorite movie. Not really. Well, OK. I do have a few … but none of them fall into the most uplifting kinda category (think Mississippi Burning, Shawshank Redemption, On the Waterfront—yea, I’m one of those). But still, even though I have a tendency to watch more “in-depth” shall we say, movies than typically pop up on a watch list, I still love all kinds of movies. And I love the thought of getting lost in one …

I mean where else can you jump out of an airplane (sans parachute) and live? Or run naked through a rainforest, be alive during the Renaissance, scale over the top of the Himalayas, be loved by a pirate? Where can you sail with Vikings, fly to the moon, run on a beach with Sebastian Coe, be fed by Julia Child, meet Nelson Mandela, shoot a love scene with a man in a flight suit …

“I never act. I simply bring out the real animal that’s in me.” ~ William Dafoe

Where can you try everything you’ve ever wanted to try, suffer immense pain, experience profound triumph, walk in someone else’s shoes for once—the movies (and your dreams) of course. And while I like the safe little life I lead hear on Earth, IF ever I were to make friends with a genie in a bottle, I would ask him to transport me to Close Encounters of the Third Kind so I could get on that giant spaceship as it pulls away, out into the unknown … with one caveat—a return to Earth card tucked neatly into my pocket … a card that I may, or may not use especially if there’s a nice beach and a few friendly pirates or a man in a flight suit 🙂
