If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be? Stupid question. Right? I mean first of all, it’s so beyond hypothetical that it’s impossible to answer but a lot of HR departments seem to think it reveals something about a potential employee. Say “sycamore” because well, it’s fun to say (try it … let the sounds roll over your tongue—see, its fun isn’t it). Say “oak” because they’re strong and spread their roots. Say “redwood” because they’re tall, and magnificent. Moving on …
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Well, now there’s an awesome question—hypothetical or not, it’s something we’ve all thought of. (Don’t tell me you haven’t. Don’t tell me all you think about is what kind of tree you would be.) A lot of people want to fly. Me too. Flying would be so über cool! Some people want to read minds. Not me. No way. I have enough to do just dealing with my own thoughts, I sure as hell don’t need to be bothered by anyone else’s. There are a few token people out there who say they’d like superhuman strength, why is beyond me—I mean no one needs to be able to lift a building up … of course yielding a hammer the way Thor can, well, that might be OK. Then again, he isn’t human. Is he? What about superhuman speed? Eh. Again, why? Why does anyone want to get anywhere any faster than they already can? Superhuman hearing? Again, why? I mean what’s the point? Just more crap to know that you really don’t need to know.
But what about the ability to disappear? Bear in mind, this is not the same thing as being invisible. Being invisible insinuates that you can remain where you are, undetected, and unbothered. Being able to disappear means, well, duh, that you disappear. I’m not sure that would be so awesome. I think I’d rather be a sycamore. Of course, if I could take a soma holiday and eventually reappear without any significant repercussion—I would. Daily.
